COMMITTED TO CRAFT

THE ARTIST

I CONSIDER MYSELF a book maker, pressman, designer,  illustrator, and print maker. My main interest lies in preserving the technical skills and long held beliefs in both design and image making through re-invention. I have a fondness for collecting antiques, old books, and mysterious, discarded objects. That may be what has led me to become a letterpress printer and book maker. My private press, Panthera Press, has become the focal point where  my skills in image making, typography, and craft come together in one practice. Now I strive to teach others and am always seeking opportunities to pass on knowledge of the book arts.

EXHIBITION

In order to keep myself sharp as an instructor I seek to exhibit my work as often as possible. I maintain a private fine arts practice in addition to my work as an instructor and printmaker at Panthera Press.

CAREER

IN ADDITION TO MY PRIVATE ARTISTIC PRACTICE I work as both a professor and a letterpress printmaker at Panthera Press. One of my passions is passing on craft-based artistic practices like letterpress and other book arts like gilding and water marbling. I try to bring a hands on approach and uniquely analog perspective to my graphic design courses. I have taught a wide range of courses including Hand lettering, Product Illustration, Concept Design, Data Visualization, 2D Design, and Art Direction.
